Scholarship and Financial Support to attend the IASIL conference
at Glasgow, 27-31 July 2009

A. SCHOLARSHIP

IASIL will offer one scholarship to assist overseas student members of IASIL to attend the conference at Glasgow, 27-31 July, 2009. The scholarship will be worth €400, plus travelling expenses, not exceeding €800 in total. The scholarship will be presented to the successful candidate during the conference.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Applicants must be paid-up student members of IASIL for 2009. The relevant dues must be paid by 31 March 2009. Information on how to become a member is available on the IASIL website at http://www.iasil.org/membership/index.html

• Applicants must be registered for a postgraduate university degree.
• Applicants must not have been granted a scholarship or award on a previous occasion.
• Each applicant must submit the following:
  • Conference paper proposal which must have been submitted before the proposal deadline and must have been accepted by the conference organisers.
  • Letter of application for the scholarship (one page).
  • Reference from research supervisor (one page).
• The scholarship awards will be considered by the Scholarship and Support Committee of IASIL, consisting of the Chair of IASIL, the Treasurer and an independent academic assessor. The decisions of the committee will be final.
• The deadline for application for the scholarship is the same as the final date for paper proposals. The candidates will be informed of the outcome of the competition by May 27, 2009. Payment of the scholarship is conditional on the delivery of the proposed paper at the conference.

B. FINANCIAL SUPPORT

IASIL has a limited support fund available to assist members in financial difficulty to attend the conference. If you wish to make a case for assistance from the IASIL support fund, please outline your situation in a brief letter to the Scholarship and Support Committee and enclose a letter of support from an academic familiar with your work.

To avail of support fund assistance, you must be a paid-up member of IASIL of at last two years standing and have your paper proposal accepted. A track record in Irish literary studies is considered essential for all applicants.

Applicants for support fund assistance will be considered by the Scholarship and Support Committee, whose decisions will be final. The final date for submission is April 30, 2009. Applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application by May 27, 2009. Payment of the assistance will be made at the conference, and is conditional on the delivery of the proposed paper at the conference.
