The
Association for Scottish Literary Studies
aims to promote the study, teaching and writing of Scottish literature, and to further the study of the languages
of Scotland. ASLS maintains the Scottish Studies Database, a list of scholars currently working in Scottish literature,
language, history and culture, with their research interests and institution. It is a searchable website designed to help academics in the field of
Scottish Studies make and keep in contact with each other.
ASLS is an active academic publisher, whose serial titles include the peer-reviewed journals
Scottish Studies Review,
Scottish Language, and the online
International Journal of Scottish Literature. Issue 6 of
IJSL, Spring/Summer 2010, is now available online. ASLS's
New Writing Scotland is required reading if you're a
finger-on-the-pulse kind of new fiction person. NWS an annual volume publishing new and exciting poetry and prose from both emerging and
established writers. Every piece appears in print in NWS for the first time, and has been drawn from a wide
cross-section of Scottish culture and society.
ASLS also publish annual critical editions of Scottish literary works, available in the USA and Canada from
IPG. Past titles include

The Devil to Stage: Five Plays by James Bridie (ed. Gerard Carruthers),
The Scotswoman at Home and Abroad:

ASLS present three conferences in Scotland each year, the Annual Conference, the Languages Conference and
the Schools Conference.
